I had been reading and doing research on ancient Egypt for some time. Mostly, I was fascinated with the pyramids, Giza, Sphinx, etc. The further I delved into the subject, the more interested I became into who these advanced, very intelligent ancient Egyptians were...what did they know? But the most intriguing question I had was: What was their view on the cosmos and creation? I myself come from a moderate Muslim background so I know that view only. My personal research indicates that the 3 Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) borrowed much of their beliefs from ancient Egyptian spiritual philosophy, used it as the foundation, and then each of these religions added their own extras. So that tells me that the ORIGINAL Kemetic source would be the best to learn from. Every time I was doing research, Dr. Ashby and The Kemetic Tree of Life kept popping up. So I knew the cosmos was telling me to check it out. I read the Amazon "Look Inside" and I loved it! It was exactly what I was looking for.I was new to higher consciousness and metaphysics so I did not know much except for what organized religion tells me to believe (but that's another story). Dr. Ashby's book was not difficult to understand. You can tell his sincerity in the writing, you can feel it creep into your soul. It was like reading a book that offered me a new way to look at the world. It will take some re-reading, but this is a very important book if you are searching for answers to the mysteries of life from one of the earliest civilizations.

This review made prior to mine is totally erroneous and full of errors in understanding of the teachings of this book.Let's start with the first statement "There is so much nonsense passed off as 'scholarship' in 'Dr' Ashby's books that it really boggles the mind." Yet this statement is made only to calumniate the author and not refute the scholarship that the author provided with historical dates, locations, anthropological evidences, Greek historical quotes book sources for statements made within his opus. Next statement "These books come out of the black nationalist movement, where fabricated history is passed off as authentic. Where every African-american is descended from the Ancient Egyptians, nevermind the fact that their tribal origins can be identified from simple DNA testing." Yet the author of the book never made the statement in this book nor any of his 60+ books of African Americans being from Egypt, on the contrary Dr.Ashby's book does state the biological fact that ALL PEOPLE ON EARTH have their ancestry from Africa and that all humanity is related as brothers and sisters. Dr.Ashby is a teacher of Yoga "union"not the racial rhetoric that the previous reviewer is attempting to place on him. The previous reviewer stated "Ashby and his ilk are selling fantasies as reality and contributing to the intentional deception of ethnic origins that have caused so many blacks to feel lost and unrooted in America." Again there is no fact in this statement merely opinion based on erroneous understanding of the teaching in this book and deep seeded issues that has given the reviewer prejudice to this opus."The genetic fact is that African-americans came from Africa. It is also a genetic fact that they did not come from Egypt, but from West Africa." To this statement I reply again that the author of this book never made such a claim, however, many tribes in west Africa do state they migrated from north Africa and some state Egypt, so I advise the reviewer to do his research on the west African tribes and their migration there before just making such a blanket statement. Then the reviewer again makes a prejudicial comment stating "To deny this by creating some bogus fantasy origin does great harm to the ancestors of these people as well as the people themselves. This book encapsulates the worst kind of lie and propagates a contempt for tribal origins that once was the specialty of slave owners." Dr. Ashby has not stated in any way, shape, form, or fashion the origin of African Americans in particular being from Egypt. What the author has stated was the origins of the ancient Egyptians from Ethiopia and the origins of human life stemming from central Africa at the origin of the Nile in Mount Kilimanjaro and Kenya which science confirms. I would suggest the reviewer question the author himself instead of being so prejudiced and biased on the magnum opus entitled "The Kemetic Kemetic tree of life". The author encouraged feedback and questions so as to clear up any confusion and misinterpretation of the teachings, the website is on the back cover of the book and once you get on the website you can email the author instead of slandering him before you get the gist of what he's saying peace and blessings.

I have found in my research and study of the Kemetic people that Kemet (Ancient Egypt) was a cosmopolitan society consisting of numerous ethnic groups, which we would call tribes. Just like present day Nigeria has the Yoruba, Ibo and several other ethnic groups or tribes dwelling with her borders, so did Kemet. Different tribes have different spiritual perspectives and the Tree of Life that Dr. Ashby appears to be one of those, which is slightly different from the one presented in the Metu Neter. This TOL works as well because all of the TOL are all theories of how the universe works. Highly recommend if you are looking for a practical TOL system.

I'm a Harvard grad, 99% GRE scorer (337, 168Q / 169V, 5.5 AW) and full-time tutor who has taught the GRE for 16 years. Despite a lack of helpful updates over the last 4 years (only 22 of this book's 584 pages are new--the remainder is the same as the 2nd edition), and a slightly inflated cost (I bought it for $25), this book and the free GRE PowerPrep software from ETS (which is compatible with both Mac and PC, and contains 2 of the 4 GRE exams mentioned on the cover of the book) remain the very best sources of GRE practice questions.When studying for the GRE, one must remember that all non-official sources of GRE practice questions and tests are simply lesser imitations of the real thing. Although third-party strategy books and practice drills are often necessary to supplement your studies, nothing beats the Official Guide when it comes to realism, especially for verbal questions.The Official Guide to the GRE, 3rd Edition is barely revised from the 2nd edition. 4 out of the first 7 chapters are exactly the same, as are the 2 (paper) practice tests included in the book. Do not buy this book if you are trying to effectively review for the quantitative reasoning section of the test. I used this book to study for several months for the GRE, and I took three of the four practice tests and earned above average scores. I felt fairly confident about at least earning an average score on the math section. I thought that buying a book that is manufactured by the company who makes the test would ensure that I earn a good score (with focused studying of course).NOPE.Test day comes, the quantitative reasoning section is at the least 20x harder than any of the practice tests and review questions. My unofficial score is several points below average, despite studying furiously for several months and always earning above average scores. I felt so confused about what happened because I had worked so hard--this wasn't a case of pathetically studying. Later I talked to some other students in my research lab, come to find out ETS's practice materials are not good tools. Kaplan and Manhattan are apparently better, so I will be buying their practice guides to study for when I retake this exam.I don't write product reviews, but I hate the fact that I just wasted about $235 on this book and my original GRE and will have to shell out another $205 for my retake. I don't know if this is some scam so that ETS makes more money from people who have to retake the test after using their bogus practice guides, but I do know that just because it says they make the test does not mean that it is a good product. I wish I knew that ETS's books are bad. Do not waste your money on this book, because you will have to waste more money to retake the GRE.

The ETS's newly released GRE Guide is, staggeringly, almost identical to its second edition, which was a mere supplement to its first edition. In the last six years, nearly nothing has been changed, and in four years, absolutely nothing new has been added. There are parts of this book--notably, almost the entire mathematics review, and many of the Verbal and Quantitative sample questions--that have not changed in literally decades, going back to when the GRE was in a completely different format and had substantively different component parts. It is an absolute embarrassment that the ETS charges over $200 for the public to take its exams, generating literally millions of dollars in revenue, and yet the organization cannot be bothered to invest in the creation of a useful, worthwhile study guide.The ETS GRE Guide is a wonderfully useful text if you are interested in reading a book about how the ETS would like you to think about the GRE. It provides great insights into how the ETS considers its own test, but the book is not itself a great study guide. The best way to utilize it is as a supplement to a separate study plan. Do not bother taking the paper-based practice exams as practice tests: use the questions as problem sets. Read the answer explanations with a healthy amount of skepticism: you may be given the longest, most egregiously frustrating methods of solving. Do not, under any circumstances, think that everything in the math review is worth considering. You'll literally never need to know interquartile rankings, how to graph a circle, or how to calculate a standard deviation.Buy this book in conjunction with another text to study for the GRE. This is not a standalone guide under any circumstances.

The author just scratches the surface of the issues that really matter (is forward basing a harm or benefit). Mr. Vine is on the right path, but meanders around subjects and throw in third rate references and stories, then reference them again and again, as if they mean something. Throughout the book there are references to speeches by sergeants, majors, and lieutenant colonels with no clear idea of their title or position. Any one who has spent more than a day or two around the military knows that rarely are sergeants, majors, or lieutenant colonels privy to or able to discuss the types of details in the book with any type of authority.Mr. Vine has an impressive amount of research which one day will translate into a great story about the life cycle of US bases in the 20th and 21st centuries. However, he's wasted this voluminous amount of data on an amateurish work that jumps from subject to subject without clearly answering or defining what he's doing. In the final chapter he tries to wrap it all up with a nice thesis statement, but it falls apart because the book was not written that way. It's really a bunch of stories of varying relevancy about US bases with many pointless stories in between. He has several real gems hidden in the book, but they are not brought to light, but glossed over.The other major blind spot of this book is the failure to include any real information or data from the nations that host US bases abroad. He could have easily tapped into the German, Korean, Philippines, Japanese, or Panamanian government or other primary sources for their studies of what happens when the US military departs an area. Each country has experienced a mass departure of US forces int the past 25 years and there are reams of data in each country looking up, down and sideways and the problem.. I applaud him for the effort, but the book needs more structure and the other side of the coin needs to be explored to make this book of value for future academics, sociologist, government bureaucrats, and those who study the military.

Excellent reading, very detailed work by David Vine on what the USA is doing around the world and how much damage is causing in the name of homeland security and the incredible amount of. money is costing the taxpayers.
